Where has 1960s gothic cinema been all my life. Romance, horror, love, murder, betrayal and revenge! All the elements of classic gothic cinema are alive and present in this 1965 Italian film titled Nightmare Castle. The first lady of the gothic film, Barbara Steele, stars in dual roles of two sisters who marry the same cold-blooded count. One after another. The plot is as follows:

“A sadistic count tortures and murders his unfaithful wife and her lover, then removes their hearts from their bodies. Discovering that his wife drew up a new will giving her fortune to her institutionalized sister, the count marries her and the new wife experiences nightmares and hauntings. The ghosts of the slain return to exact their bloody revenge, until their hearts are destroyed.”

Who isn’t up for some bloody revenge? Steele, known as ‘the first goth’ for her legendary status as a gothic cinema star, performs a character very familiar to her in this film. Her reputation for playing either a cheating wife with a husband seeking revenge, or a cheating wife seeking revenge on her husband was well known. This sort of type-cast wore on her. Barbara once commented that she never wanted to “climb out of a f–king coffin again.” But even though she gained a loyal following for her goth films, she never had much success as an actress outside of the genre. The Woody Harrelson fronted flick Zombieland took the number one spot at the box office this last weekend, bringing in $25 million in three days. But according to Steve Samblis and Brad Daymond of Instant Movie Reviews, every person who paid their way in to film has been ripped off.

Brad and Steve have renamed Zombieland as ‘Shawn of the Sh-t,’ after the Zombie hor-com movie ‘Shawn of the Dead.’ Daymond, who especially hated the motion picture, comments “the writing was bad, it wasn’t really funny, there was at least a half hour of wasted film.” Then he adds the knock out punch with “a waste of time, don’t even rent the DVD.”

But the negative rating from Instant Movie Review isn’t being held unanimously with other reviewers. CinemaScore gave the film an “A” for males, an “A-” for females and an “A” for the under-35 age group. Rotten Tomatoes ranks the movie with a very positive 89% rating and a consensus summary of “Wickedly funny and featuring plenty of gore, Zombieland is proof that the zombie sub-genre is far from dead.”

“Jennifer’s Body” is a horror film starring uber-hottie Megan Fox and was written by former-stripper-turned-Oscar-winning-screenwriter Diablo Cody.

It is about a possessed cheerleader.

As in demonic possession… as in this crazy rah-rah broad will kill you and eat your soul. But since it’s Megan Fox, you will not be able to stop yourself from letting her. You’ll probably even lend her your car and wonder, as you lay in your shallow grave, why she hasn’t called you.

And I think it goes without saying that if there is an Oscar category for “Best Demon Cleavage” there is no doubt Megan Fox is a shoo-in for her performance as a… yes, say it with me… demon cheerleader.

Gimme an S, gimme an A, gimme a T… etc…

Okay, yeah, I will admit this movie looks pretty stupid. We already had Twilight with those whiny-teenage vampires, you say… “Why do we need teenage demon cheerleaders?”

Did I mention Megan Fox was in it? And she’s kind of… uh, naked?
