Michael Cera Looking for Love in “Youth in Revolt”
What wicked powers are held in the hands of a beautiful smart woman?
For one, she has the ability to make a young man question all that he is and all he wants to be.
Trivial stuff? Hardly. It’s the premise behind the coming-of-age love story “Youth in Revolt “. Michael Cera stars as Nick Twisp, a virgin who would rather not be, and Portia Doubleday stars as Sheeni, his ideal girl, his muse, his object of desire who owns him completely. Only one small problem – Sheeni “doesn’t like him in that way.”
In the quest to make Sheeni “like him in that way”, Nick concocts a plan, errr, an alter ego, to win over the heart, mind, and body of Sheeni. This alter ego, Francois, is suave. This alter ego is smooth. This alter ego has a mustache.
With the cool and casual Francois in control, all should end well, right? Not exactly. In the quest to conquer Sheeni, Nick happens to burn down most of Berkeley, CA., run away to India, and shoot her dad. Not cool. Really, those these are just footnotes in the story of love. What matters is, of course, the success of Nick and Francois in changing their sexual status?
Let’s hope so!
Of course, we’re not cruel enough to give away the story line. Find out yourself — cause it’s worth it — when the movie is released on January 8, 2010.
