However, with so many vampires and not so many humans, the vamps of the future turn the remaining humans into a living bloodbank.

Now that’s a movie!

And it doesn’t hurt to have Willem Dafoe, who happens to look like Count Chockula in his daily existence, in the film. And because sensitive Ethan Hawke is in the film, there will no doubt be endless speculation about the environmentalist, voracious-capitalist-humankind-beating-the-living-hell-out-of-nature metaphor bandied about all over those fur haters in Hollywood.

Daybreakers is scheduled to be released on January 8, 2010. Happy New Year mortals!

So in the name of post-capitalism and postmodernism — no, not really — it’s time to farm the humans and drain every last ounce of blood or humanity left in them. Wait, maybe Daybreakers actually is a treaty against the ravages of capitalism: a corporation of the undead takes the remaining humans and harvests them to feed its unquenchable thirst for blood.

Daybreakers is a Lionsgate Films and, as they put it, it opens in a world where almost everyone is a vampire and no one grows old. Sam Neill plays Charles Bromley and succinctly lets us, and the world of vampire brethren, know that “Immortality is the miracle and we are blessed”.

The remaining humans are hunted and farmed for blood, and when when there isn’t a single drop of blood left — the end of the human race is at stake and the battle between immortality and humanity is on.
